Job Description Summary

Program Coordinator II working as a member of the Advancement Services team, is responsible for research and analysis supporting four critical functions for central development at the Medical University of South Carolina: (1) Strategic planning and donor/prospect engagement activities; (2) technical resource and support to Advancement Services and central development; (3) program and fund concept evaluation and data support; and (4) data analysis and reporting to support and help shape prospect and annual giving segmentation and donor retention activities.

This position is crucial to the strategic growth of MUSC development and will provide data-driven analysis and insights on everything from the higher education and healthcare markets, grateful patients, and alumni to prospect behavior and demographics, alumni interactions, similar organizations, financial performance, and efficient allocation of marketing dollars to maximize our success.

Preferred Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of advancement research, development, fundraising, and/or market research experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with demonstrated competencies in applied marketing research, sales, marketing and/or financial analysis, library science, journalism, business communications and/or similar fields considered. Must have knowledge of Excel and familiarity with business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau, SAS); must possess analytical skills and strong organizational abilities. Have familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or other comparable complex fundraising databases and possess excellent business and analytical skills. Must have good writing and communication skills and have the ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of fundraisers and advancement staff and other constituencies.

Additional Knowledge, Skill and Ability Preferred

Knowledge of advancement services fundraising and/or fundraising analytic methodologies. Working knowledge of market research and data research practices and concepts. Should have demonstrated project management skills, good attention to detail and ability to prioritize and meet frequent deadlines.

Guidelines and Supervision

Adhere to the highest ethical standards to handle confidential and sensitive gift and constituent information appropriately. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Preference given to candidates with understanding of and competency with the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA) Basic and Advanced Skill Sets. Reports to the Executive Director of Advancement Services and Annual Giving.

Duties Performed

This position will collect, collate, review, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data on: prospects; alumni; friends; grateful patients; revenues and expenses as well as industry trends.  The Research Analyst is responsible for the proactive assessment, coding and ongoing tracking of major and principal gift prospects for MUSC’s central development, providing high-level background research, demographic analysis, trending and financial forecasting.

Percent of Total Time – 20%

Regularly monitor acquisition and retention of supporters and report on issues/opportunities. Develop and implement campaign tracking for fundraising programs including events. Provide recommendations to central development on recency, frequency, and value (RFV) segmentation. Implement data segmentation strategies. Undertake data profiling to gain key insights and use to guide future acquisition and retention strategies. Assist development staff in identifying potential prospects, evaluating relationships and engagement opportunities as well as assist in developing appropriate cultivation and solicitation strategies for alumni, parents and friends that maximize their giving to and engagement with MUSC.

Conduct in-depth program analyses and market research using a wide variety of data sources in order to identify new prospects/donor streams, target markets, offer input on new fundraising programs and assistance in optimization of existing programs. Present ROI and life-time value analysis on donors, alumni, and friends segments.  Present key data insights to development staff to help with the ongoing assessment and strategic development of fundraising programs as well as assist in creation for business cases for investment in new programs and events based on sound analysis.

Assist central development with ad doc queries and data insights. Create reports and analyze data from internal systems including Blackbaud products, vendor subscriptions (Blackbaud, Gravyty, ResearchPoint, DonorScape, etc.) and systems used across the MUSC campus and leverage appropriate campus department collaboration, as well as relevant external sources, social media, alert services, archival libraries and print publications, market surveys, etc. This position will develop standardized and ad-hoc reports for all of the aforementioned analyses, and author executive level reports summarizing the financial impacts of quality improvement and cost savings initiatives and revenue projections.

Introduce and manage new reporting tools, services and/or programs to Central Development and offer appropriate training where needed. Collaborate and communicate with MUSC tech services as well as the development team in working on information requests and data analysis to coordinate delivery of accurate and reliable information.

Monitor and track development marketing performance; higher education and healthcare issues and trends; local, regional and national economic indicators; information on like organizations (including programs offered, segments served, dollars raised);

Produces data on demand for development product concepts; and statistics to support social media campaigns and content development to convey program relevance and value to prospective, existing and former donors and alumni.

Remain current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as required by the Executive Director Advancement Services.
