Senior Associate Director, Annual Giving

Reporting to and working closely with the Director of Annual Giving, the Senior Associate Director will implement full-cycle strategies to meet donor participation and revenue goals. They will supervise two assistant directors—one focused on reunion giving and the other on broad-based campaigns—to increase current-use dollars to Wheaton annually through peer-to-peer outreach and direct marketing efforts. In addition, they will manage a portfolio of prospects who have the capacity to make leadership gifts to Wheaton College.
 
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
  • Alongside the Director, create and institute a full-cycle strategy for donor acquisition, donor retention, and donor retrieval efforts for annual giving. This includes developing creative ideas for cultivating and soliciting new and returning annual fund donors. Collaborate with colleagues in Donor Engagement on stewardship projects for first-time donors, 1834 Society members (consecutive giving), Slype Sustainers (monthly giving), Giving Circle members, and other annual giving donors.
  • Implement a comprehensive fundraising plan for the reunion-giving program to include reunion-giving communications, supporting reunion-giving volunteers, special reunion-giving events, and other annual gift strategies to increase donor participation and dollars raised from alumni celebrating a class reunion. Be the lead of the 50th Reunion Giving Program and oversee the Assistant Director, whose primary function is to support all facets of the Reunion Giving Program.
  • Serve as project lead for large-scale digital & peer-to-peer appeals, i.e., Giving Days, Micro-campaigns. Lead in strategy development for each appeal by helping to set goals, creating a detailed action plan, and overseeing the Assistant Director of Broad-Based Giving Campaigns, whose primary function is to run Broad-Based Giving Campaigns and the Wheaton peer-to-peer advocacy program.
  • Manage a portfolio of 150+ alumni and parents who have the capacity to make a leadership gift or become a Mary Lyon Leadership Society donor. Qualify, cultivate, and personally solicit identified prospects through donor visits (in-person and virtual), phone calls, and drafted correspondences. Keep current with and be able to convey information about highlights and initiatives at Wheaton College. Compile information packets and marketing materials based on donor research to align with donors; philanthropic interests and translate them to college fundraising priorities.
  • Attend department, division, and campus-wide meetings. Attend and appropriately staff division-wide events and programs for students, alumni, parents, and friends. Some night and weekend work is required, especially during Advancement events, Family & Friends Weekend, Fall Fest, and Commencement/Reunion.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five years of annual fund or relevant experience, preferably in higher education fundraising environments.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication (written, verbal, listening) skills and experience in donor solicitations.
  • Exceptional manager of time, projects, and people. A proven record of accomplishment in a position requiring independent planning and efficient utilization of time and resources.
  • Can work independently and collaboratively, multitask, prioritize assignments, and meet deadlines without compromising quality in a demanding, high-volume work environment.
  • Must be able to engage and build relationships with colleagues, faculty, leadership, staff, alumni, volunteers, donors, and other external constituents.
  • Proficiency with computers and standard applications (including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Suite, and Zoom) and experience with CRMs or other fundraising systems.
