Director of Annual Giving, Medical Advancement

The Director of Annual Giving leads the planning, implementation and execution of all strategies related to the School of Medicine’s and Siteman Cancer Center’s Annual Fund Programs with the purpose of increasing annual unrestricted support from all constituencies. The Director will set the strategic direction for both Annual Fund Programs through the following:

  • Developing annual direct mail plans for both the School of Medicine and Siteman Cancer Center with the intention of retaining current donors and acquiring new donors.
  • Creating strategies to secure renewed donors who made Annual Fund gifts in previous years. This will be primarily for the School of Medicine’s Annual Fund Program.
  • Managing a portfolio of annual fund prospects and donors with the goal of securing leadership Annual Fund gifts ($10,000+ gifts).

The Director ensures that the School’s Annual Fund achieves the qualitative and quantitative goals set each year, and for identifying pertinent issues and making appropriate adjustments when any of these goals are not achieved. In future years, the Director will be responsible for creating a donor acquisition program with the patient constituency associated with the School of Medicine. HIPAA training is required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of Annual Fund prospects and donors, specifically at leadership levels ($10,000 +), primarily for the School’s Annual Fund.
  • Work in close collaboration with internal constituencies, to develop and facilitate the School of Medicine’s and Siteman Cancer Center’s comprehensive Annual Giving direct mail programs to all external constituents, including composition of written solicitation letters and electronic and social media communications.
  • Supervise an associate director, assistant director and partially allocated administrative assistant, develop and execute a long-term plan that grows the reach and impact of the annual giving programs, and evaluate progress toward goals, and track and report, on an ongoing basis, all aspects of the School of Medicine’s and Siteman Cancer Center’s Annual Fund Programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree from an accredited college or university and five to seven years of achievement in higher education development or healthcare development.
  • Five years of fundraising experience, preferably in higher education or healthcare, or a record of demonstrated achievement in a field requiring the application of similar skills.
  • Experience soliciting gifts of $1,000 to $50,000 or more.
  • Ability to personally solicit contributions from individuals.
  • Superior oral and written communications skills that can articulate the needs, interests, and accomplishments of the School of Medicine and Siteman Cancer Center to a wide range of audiences in a variety of formats.
  • Thorough understanding of database, direct mail, phonathon, and electronic/web-based strategies and tactics in fundraising.
  • Ability to accumulate, assess and act upon information derived from both statistical and anecdotal sources.
  • Ability to establish and maintain highly productive collaborative relationships with colleagues across University Advancement.
  • Demonstrated organizational and communication skills as well as an ability to work with and motivate other development professionals and volunteers.
  • Capacity to perform in an intellectually rigorous and complex environment of medical science and science education encompassing multiple institutions and numerous disciplines.

Required Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of related experience.

Salary Range: 

$70,300.00 – $120,000.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
