SUMMARY:

The Major Giving Officer helps advance the University of Richmond’s mission to provide an academically challenging, intellectually vibrant, and collaborative education that prepares students for lives of purpose and leadership. This position contributes to that mission by:

  • Identifying and qualifying prospective donors
  • Soliciting and securing philanthropic gifts in the five-, six-, and seven-figure range, with potential for transformational commitments
  • Strengthening the donor pipeline for future giving

The Major Giving Officer manages a portfolio of rated prospects primarily in the Northeast U.S., with a focus on New York, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Occasional trips or virtual engagement may also occur in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont to cultivate and steward alumni and parent relationships.

Representing a nationally recognized liberal arts university that combines the intimacy of a small college with the resources of a major institution, the Major Gift Officer will secure support that fuels innovative programs, world-class faculty, and life-changing opportunities for students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proven success in soliciting and closing five-, six-, and seven-figure philanthropic gifts
  • Strong judgment and discretion, with an understanding of, or willingness to learn, ethical principles in higher education fundraising
  • High level of professionalism and integrity
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse constituencies
  • Collaborative and team-oriented mindset, with a commitment to collegiality, honesty, and transparency
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills, with a sense of humor appreciated
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and fundraising software (e.g., CRM/database systems)
  • Willingness and ability to maintain a robust travel schedule

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of four to six years of experience in fundraising or equivalent years of experience with a proven track record of success.
  • Higher education fundraising preferred.

SALARY STRUCTURE:

  • Salary Range begins at: $74,672 to $116,668 annually, commensurate with experience
  • Job title will be commensurate with experience (Assistant Director, Associate Director, or Sr. Associate Director -of Major Giving).
  • This position is based onsite at the University of Richmond. While primarily in-person, there may be opportunities for a hybrid work arrangement depending on departmental needs and individual performance.
