Assistant Director Annual Giving reports to the Executive Director of Veteran & Military Development, for D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) and The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA).

The Ideal candidate will serve as the primary lead for the IVMF’s digital giving strategy and engagement of individual donors for annual gift support and potential lead generation to IVMF major gift officers from the direct response pool. Working with an external firm and through internal efforts, the role is responsible for executing strategies and managing implementation of multi-channel digital platforms and fundraising campaigns including donors and prospects via email, social, and web to substantially grow and steward the support base for IVMF and its unique role in the veteran and military field. In addition, the role works closely with internal and external stakeholders to achieve shared outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for development, implementation, and management of fundraising campaigns to qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward a pool of leadership annual giving donors for new gifts, renewals, and upgrades using a variety of techniques such as phone calls, coordinated emails, social media, mailings, texting, follow up correspondence, and face-to-face visits.
  • Build campaigns and work closely with the internal SU Philanthropic Engagement team as well as external consulting firms, to identify and solicit a portfolio of mid-level and major gift donors to fuel the pipeline for major gift officers.
  • Responsible for discovering, soliciting, and qualifying alumni, parents, and friends who have the capacity to support the D’Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families (IVMF) and The Office of Veteran and Military Affairs (OVMA) with leadership annual gifts and maximizing the opportunities to generate those gifts.
  • The Assistant Director of Annual Giving will carry a sizable caseload of leadership annual prospects and a moderate pool of discovery prospects across the U.S.
  • Build an engagement portfolio of prospects with demonstrated giving history and having been identified with capacity to make gifts of $1,000+ annually, with accountability for increased dollar performance.
  • Writing creative content that will inspire donors to give make philanthropic gifts to Syracuse University’s D’Aniello IVMF and OVMA that is also applicable for multiple/various media formats to provide consistency across direct mail pieces, digital platforms, and personal interactions.
  • Manage existing system for tracking, evaluating, and optimizing campaign performance and engagement metrics and analyze and incorporate data into recommendations and plans.
  • Coordinate project management and proofing processes for large scale mailings, requesting data
  • Identify strategy use of donor segments and suppression lists to retain, tag, and upgrade donors as needed and between Blackbaud and Salesforce databases.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Experience managing all stages of a direct response campaigns including email, social media, and mail both internally and at times working collaboratively with an outside agency.
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English or closely related field.
  • Minimum 3-5 plus years of professional experience.
  • Proficiency MS Office 365 applications and Adobe Creative Suite required.

  • Ability to adapt existing messaging into different formats, for different audiences in a consistent and cohesive way.

  • Experience in working both independently and in collaboration with a variety of individuals.
  • Experience working effectively in an environment requiring balancing multiple competing deadlines and priorities.
