This full-time exempt position in Alumni Engagement reports to the Managing Director, Alumni Affairs and Development, and is responsible for planning and executing MD alumni class-based engagement and fundraising efforts, with a focus on classes celebrating Reunion.

Job-Specific Functions:

  • Manage a portfolio of Reunion classes.
    • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, and steward top prospects for gifts of $2K-$50K (and above as appropriate).
    • Identify, enlist, manage and steward diverse and inclusive volunteer Committees that have engagement and fundraising responsibilities.
    • Plan and conduct committee meetings (at least 3 per year per class).
    • Guide and manage volunteer peer outreach for engagement and fundraising purposes.
    • Set class fundraising goals, based on analysis, and partner with colleagues, as appropriate, on top prospect strategies.
    • Determine, and execute, engagement and event strategies for both social and content-based activities.
  • Manage a portfolio of non-Reunion classes.
    • Oversee and steward Class Agents, which includes partnering on the bi-annual class-based appeal letters.
    • Maintain and grow membership in HMS loyalty (Federman) and leadership (Dean’s Council) giving societies.
  • Conduct 50-75 personal visits annually for solicitation, recruitment, volunteer management, cultivation, and stewardship purposes.
  • Coordinate with AAD colleagues to identify, research, engage, solicit, and steward top prospects in assigned classes. This may include partnering with faculty and senior administrators.
  • Direct work for and mentor a shared, full-time staff assistant.
  • The above covers the most significant responsibilities of the position. It does not, however, exclude other duties, the inclusion of which would be in conformity with the level of the position.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ relevant work experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in fundraising and administration or related transferable experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to meet donors and volunteers and staff events. Some evening and weekend work is required.
  • Must have experience with Microsoft Windows and Office, and databases.
  • Collaborative, conscientious, and results-oriented. Must be able to listen carefully to colleagues and alumni.
  • Must possess good judgment, an ability to maintain confidential information, and can handle difficult situations with tact and a sense of humor.
  • Motivated to learn and flexible to change.
  • Ability to think strategically and conceptually, solve problems, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and clearly both in writing and verbally.
  • Must be able to deal effectively and politely with people from all types of backgrounds.

This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA).
