Davidson College, located approximately 20 miles north of Charlotte near scenic Lake Norman, is consistently regarded as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the nation. The college seeks an engaging and motivated individual to join its dynamic major gifts team.

The Associate Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for discovery, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of Davidson College alumni, parents, and friends in support of the college’s ambitious fundraising goals. The Associate Major Gifts Officer will collaborate regularly with colleagues in major gifts, research, principal gifts, parent giving, the Davidson Athletic Fund, gift planning, and donor relations to ensure a comprehensive approach with all prospects.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of 150 to 200 development prospects capable of support in the range of $2,500 to $20,000 annually in support of the college’s strategic priorities.
  • Conduct a minimum of 180 one-on-one meetings with prospects in-person, by Zoom, and phone.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues and cross-campus partners to maximize donor potential
  • Develop and maintain a strong understanding of Davidson’s strategic priorities and goals.
  • Build and expand the engagement of the prospect pool; identify strategies and opportunities to align prospects with college priorities.
  • Maintain a complete record of all donor interactions using the Blackbaud CRM system.
  • Actively engage in the life of the college through attendance at campus events.
  • Staff College Relations special events on campus and in regional territories on an as needed basis.   

Required qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • High level of comfort with financial conversations including the solicitation
  • Minimum 2+ years’ experience in development or closely related field (e.g., sales, marketing) preferred
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal skills; proven organizational skills
  • Willingness to travel extensively and to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Comfortable working with people of diverse generations, backgrounds, and experiences
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and earn the respect of colleagues, volunteers, and donors
  • Demonstrated successful record of short-term goal setting, strategic planning, timeline creation and execution, and problem-solving
  • Proven ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
