Position Summary: The Assistant Director, Leadership Annual Giving is a key member of Pomona College’s frontline fundraising team focused on mid-level donors. The Assistant Director will be responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of alumni and friends with a specific focus on gifts ranging from $1,500 to $25,000 or more, in support of the Pomona College Annual Fund. This position will work closely with development team members to increase the donor base that will support the mission of Pomona College.
Essential Functions:
Reporting directly to the Director of Leadership Annual and Reunion Giving, the Assistant Director will perform the following essential duties and responsibilities:
- Manage a portfolio of at least 200 current, lapsed and prospective annual giving prospects (with giving capacity of $1,500 or more).
- Meet personal visit and solicitation goals which includes completion of 12 substantive visits a month, qualifying 30 prospects a year and submitting 12 funded proposals annually.
- Assist in overseeing the leadership annual giving prospect pool, as well as tracking and reporting leadership annual donor activity.
- Coordinate the design and implementation of cultivation and solicitation strategies for leadership annual giving, with a focus on retaining and upgrading donors. Collaborate with development team members to co-create the vision and execution of our annual giving campaigns.
- Assist in developing a communications and stewardship plan for leadership gift societies and help identify new opportunities that inspire higher levels of giving among donors.
- Help to recruit, train and support volunteers for annual giving initiatives (ex. Giving Day, Giving Tuesday or reunion campaigns) and ensure leadership annual donors are included through, for example, challenges or matching funds.
- Provide input on strategy, analyzing progress through the year, and working with department stakeholders to meet or exceed assigned fundraising goals.
- Assist in planning and development of stewardship activities and events for leadership annual donors. Serve as a liaison for The President’s Council and Torchbearers.
- Take an active role in building the donor pipeline by identifying and advancing leadership giving donors with higher capacity and interest towards larger commitments.
- Build relationships with faculty, staff, and other College colleagues to create a community internally that can be leveraged with alumni and friends externally.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, liberal arts field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Licenses/Certificates: A valid driver’s license is required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events.
- Experience: A minimum of 1-2 year of fundraising, sales, communications or related experience is required. Two years of experience at an academic institution is preferred.
Required Hours: The regular hours for this full time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Travel to visit constituents and to staff events will be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College or division.
Additional Position Details: Regular, full-time, exempt position. Starting pay rate: $5,200 per month.
