Birmingham-Southern College in Birmingham, Alabama, has an opening for a Director of Development. The Director is responsible for identifying, cultivating and successfully soliciting donors for major gifts to support the College. The position works within the Office of Advancement to plan and execute appropriate activities, including planning and hosting visits with donors. The position also ensures that such activities are promptly documented in the donor database.

The Director of Development must be able to function as an integral part of a team of fundraising professionals to design and implement successful fundraising programs that include annual giving, planned giving and major gifts to maximize private gift support for the College. This position will also work closely with and provide staff assistance to volunteers involved in selected fundraising projects.

Requirements

• Qualified candidates will hold a bachelor’s degree along with five years of successful non-profit fundraising experience.
• Demonstrated success in identifying, cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts using best-practice strategies and tactics is required.
• Must be a polished oral and written communicator.
• Must be available and willing to travel.
• CFRE certification and experience in higher education is preferred.
