Director of Development, College of the Arts
Job Description
The Director of Development will serve as the chief fundraising officer for the college and, working with the Vice President for Development & Alumni Affairs and the Dean of the College of the Arts, will be responsible for developing and assessing strategies and goals for the college. This position will work closely with faculty, staff and volunteers, and will assist with the development of a comprehensive advancement plan.
Responsibilities
- Cultivate, solicit and steward prospects at the $25,000 level and up, meeting or exceeding annual metrics.
- Coordinate with department chairs and faculty in developing philanthropic proposals.
- Develop long- and short-range funding plans with development. leadership, dean, associate deans, and department chairs.
- Host or co-host receptions and other donor events locally and regionally.
- Provide stewardship of gifts including supervising acknowledgement process, coordinating recognition events, planning dedications, and working with the Office of Development & Alumni Affairs on appropriate recognition.
- Serve as a leader in Development & Alumni Affairs, assisting in the planning for the next campaign.
- Work with the college’s volunteers, expanding the board and its responsibilities to include a more active role in fundraising for the college.
- Assist Alumni Affairs, Central Development, and Development Operations as needed.
- Participate as a member of the dean’s leadership team.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in face-to-face solicitation of gifts of $25,000 or more; or a combination of education and related experience
Preferred Hiring Qualifications:
- Demonstrated experience implementing cultivation and solicitation plans.
- Development experience in a higher education setting.
- Knowledge of and prior use of Raiser’s Edge software.
- Experience setting fundraising goals.
- Experience supervising and motivating staff and volunteers to achieve objectives.
- Ability and commitment to work with diverse constituencies from all disciplines including. donors, faculty, staff, students, and select corporations and foundations.
- Successful record of collaboration with colleagues and volunteers.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
