Director of Prospect Management and Research
The Director of Prospect Management and Research manages a comprehensive research program for University Relations that is comprised of three key areas: portfolio management, prospect research, and analytics. Responsibilities include planning, implementing and directing a comprehensive program to address activities associated with moving prospects along the giving continuum. The incumbent will oversee proactive prospect research, strategy, and management, setting priorities, supervising staff, creating and implementing procedures and policies, and maintaining the research budget. The unit also analyzes, evaluates and disseminates information that is critical to securing major gifts.
The Director of Prospect Management and Research is a member of the Philanthropy Leadership Team within University Relations. The unit is focused on raising major and principal gifts for UC Santa Cruz, and preparing for the university’s next comprehensive fundraising campaign.
The Director of Prospect Management and Research will report the Associate Vice Chancellor, Philanthropy (AVCP) providing critical support to the development officer corps by facilitating a “moves management” system, based upon comprehensive research that drives discovery, cultivation and solicitation strategies for donors and prospects.
Involves designing, developing, delivering, and administering fundraising programs. Identifies new donor prospects through researching background information on potential donors and developing materials, marketing plans, and organizing related programs/events; cultivates, stewards, and may solicit donor prospects.
Qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
- At least 6 years in a research, research-related and/or development environment is required.
- Thorough understanding of and experience in major gift prospect identification and moves management within a development or related setting.
- Computer proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications, electronic mail, and Internet searches, with the ability and willingness to learn new systems and software programs is essential.
- Experience with information resources and publications is required, including fundraising databases (ADFS Banner, a plus), on-line services (Lexis-Nexis desired), and database overlays (Advisor a plus).
