Job Summary

The Office of Institutional Engagement (IE) at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) comprises individual, corporate, foundation and government fundraising; donor relations and stewardship; alumni, parents relations, and partners with these diverse constituents to advance RISD’s mission. We seek an experienced Senior Prospect Development Analyst to provide research and analysis of prospects and proactively identify new prospective donors specific to fundraising objectives for the college and affiliated museum. This role will analyze organizational data, including donor trends and organizational performance, to provide actionable intelligence to IE leadership. The ideal candidate will synthesize information into written and/or visually compelling presentations focused on RISD’s fundraising goals. The Senior Prospect Development Analyst will strategize and partner with Philanthropy Officers to support the development of high-potential prospect portfolios, as well as maintain prospect-tracking systems.

Essential Functions

  • Identifies, qualifies, and researches prospects to ascertain their potential philanthropic support to RISD. Provide background and financial assessment information for prospect visits by Philanthropy Officers, the President, the Museum Director, and others as needed.
  • Manages prospect progress through cultivation cycle. Implements business processes for prospect and pipeline data tracking; ensures prospect portfolios contain a mix of prospects at appropriate stages with up-to-date information; partners with Philanthropy Officers to review prospect portfolios on a regular basis and develops ongoing portfolio maintenance solutions.
  • Provides analysis of complex results and/or activities, including analysis of donor trends, interests, giving capacity, affinity, overall prospect pool composition, and Philanthropy Officer performance, and makes recommendations for Institutional Engagement resource allocation and campaign planning.
  • Partners with reporting colleagues to develop and refine automated reports on prospect and pipeline tracking, Philanthropy Officer performance-to-goal, and campaign progress.
  • Responsible for developing and maintaining a streamlined system of storing confidential information on prospects, including alumni and friends.
  • Maintains a queue of requests and a tracking system of activities.
  • Trains Development Officers on prospect management and proposal policies, and on the entry, tracking, and management of their activity in Raiser’s Edge.

Knowledge/Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum two years of experience in a development office of an institution of higher education or other non-profit organization required.
  • Knowledge of and demonstrated experience with research and analysis methodologies and data visualization techniques. Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Requires an ability to investigate, interpret, and compile personal and confidential data and present information in a clear and cohesive manner.
  • Must be detail-oriented with an inquiring mind and have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to use independent judgment and to work in a collaborative team environment, exhibiting good listening skills and responsiveness.
  • Proficiency with databases and data visualization tools required. Strong mathematical and analysis skills.
