Associate Director of Annual Giving
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
University Development’s purpose is to support the mission of the university by raising private resources to enhance financial support for students, faculty, programs, and facilities. University Development provides leadership and centralized services to all development offices throughout the University, serving as a focal point for annual giving, application development and IT support; campaign management; constituent programs; corporate and foundation relations; donor relations; gift planning; gift services; industry relations; marketing/communications; parents giving; principal gifts; prospect management, research and analytics; regional programs; scholarships and student aid; talent management; university events; and volunteer engagement.

Position Summary
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
Reporting to the Director of Annual Giving, the Associate Director of Annual Giving, Direct Marketing for Schools and Units will plan and implement the overall strategy for annual giving programs for a portfolio of UNC schools and units and provide strategic support and project management on as needed basis for additional UNC Schools and Units. This position will work primarily with professional schools on campus. The Associate Director will contribute and implement an overall outreach strategy to renew, retain, and acquire donors through direct marketing strategies as needed to support school and unit annual giving programs. The Associate Director will serve as a subject matter expert on the direct marketing industry and provide consultation to the schools and units. This position also plays an essential role in implementing pan-Carolina annual giving strategies including GiveUNC – Carolina’s annual day of giving.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with related experience. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Must be knowledgeable of strategies that will target annual giving prospects, alumni and donors for the schools/units and will focus on the outreach strategy to acquire, renew/retain, reactivate and upgrade donors as well as stewardship of annual donors. Must have the ability to establish strong and positive working relationships within University Development and with colleagues, donors and contacts campus-wide. The ability to independently communicate complex topics to both internal and external individuals is essential.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Experience using design tools, including Adobe Premier products, is preferred. Experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud and Blackbaud CRM preferred. A minimum of five years’ experience in Direct Marketing and higher education experience is preferred.
