Assistant Director, Student & Young Alumni Giving
Job Purpose:
The Assistant Director of Student Philanthropy & Young Alumni develops and manages communications and programs to engage students and young alumni in philanthropic support of the College. This is a key part of an institution-wide program to establish a culture of philanthropy at the College to increase alumni donor participation. The position will report to the Senior Director, Annual Giving, and will collaborate with the Director, Annual Giving, other colleagues in Alumni Affairs and IA, as well as other institutional partners to plan and execute effective student and young alumni engagement and philanthropic opportunities, leveraging events, athletics, CofC traditions, Alumni Affinity Groups, career opportunities, reunions, and Class Notes.
Job Duties:
- Researches other institutions’ successful student giving programs and redesigns/relaunches the CofC student giving society (currently known as Committed to Charleston or C2C). Leverages the CofC Ring program history and traditions to increase student philanthropy. Serves as an Advisor to the Student Alumni Associates (SAA) organization and supports the Director, Annual Giving, by increasing student participation in CofC Day and Spirit Week activities. In coordination with the Senior Director, assist with the development of giving goals for student philanthropy and a senior class gift.
- Provide stewardship to undergraduate student and young alumni donors. Identify and deliver meaningful benefits for those who give, leveraging the popularity of A Charleston Affair and Commencement with these audiences.
- Researches other institutions’ successful young alumni engagement programs to create a young alumni engagement program for CofC. Coordinates a smooth transition from graduating student to young alumnus, working with the Alumni Engagement team and SAA to celebrate graduating students during Spring Alumni Weekend and Commencement, and welcome new graduates into their local CofC Clubs. Increase young alumni involvement in their regional CofC Day and other Club events. Leverage Alumni Affinity Groups to increase young alumni engagement and Class Notes to keep data updated. In coordination with the Senior Director, assist with the development of giving goals for young alumni and a plan for reunions, whether based on class years or affinities.
- Plans and executes an effective annual program to engage students and young alumni in philanthropic support for the College. Collaborates with Alumni Affairs colleagues to leverage events, athletics, CofC traditions, Alumni Affinity Groups, career opportunities, and reunions to engage more students and young alumni. Organizes a Senior Class Gift and coordinates student and young alumni participation in Fall Alumni Weekend, CofC Day, Spring Alumni Weekend, and other annual events. Coordinates with Senior Director and IA Communications on strategies to communicate more effectively with students and young alumni.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree and at least two years of experience working in fundraising, donor relations, marketing, volunteer management, and/or student management/advising. Professional experience working in higher education is preferred. Candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and/or education are encouraged to apply.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong administrative and project management experience with a demonstrated ability to plan, manage, and track projects through completion. Proficiency with software applications, including MS Office (particularly Word and Excel), a relational database or CRM (i.e., Raiser’s Edge), and mass mail- and email-merge programs. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills. The ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external constituencies, while exercising tact and diplomacy in all interactions.
Additional Comments Regarding Position:
Must be able to work flexible hours including some evenings and weekends. Some travel is required.
