Director of Annual Giving

Reporting to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Advancement, the Director of Annual Giving will build on a well-established multi-channel program of annual giving for UNCSA, helping take it to the next level of success. This position is directly responsible for establishing short- and longterm goals, strategies, and tactics that grow annual giving through best practice work in a variety of channels. In addition to strategy and planning, this position is responsible for the execution of all elements of the annual giving program, including direct mail, email, text-to-give, giving days, crowdfunding, and more. This position works collaboratively with the Director of Development, Leadership and Family Giving to plan and execute UNCSA’s combined annual and leadership annual giving programs.

Work Schedule and Hours: 

Standard work schedule is 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday Some evenings and weekends are required for days of giving and events.

Description of Responsibilities and Duties: 

The Director of Annual Giving Manager is responsible, in collaboration with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Advancement, for the design of new programs and activities that will upgrade and build sustainable gifts to the Annual Fund.

  • Create and execute all print, email, and video solicitations for the entire fiscal year. Targeted campaigns include leadership annual giving, parent giving, planned giving, monthly LYBUNT anniversary reminders, and quarterly donor acquisition and renewal.
  • Works closely with Director of Alumni Relations and the Manager of Donor Relations and Communications on appeals and communications focused on individual donors, including alumni, parents, faculty, performance ticket purchasers and friends of UNCSA.
  • Identify and integrate Annual Fund donors into the Major Gifts program, in close collaboration with the Directors of Development, Leadership Annual and Family Giving and Major Gift Officers.
  • Work closely with Directors of Development, Leadership Annual and Family Giving and Major Gift Officers and Advancement leadership to identify new prospects for the Giannini Society.
  • Plan and execute Day of Giving, UNCSA’s largest solicitation effort, as well as #GivingTuesday.
  • Work closely with Raiser’s Edge database and with the Database Manager to ensure that Annual Fund donor records are continually accurate, updated, and refreshed with contact notes as appropriate.
  • Track income related to Annual Fund campaigns and special initiatives to provide reports as needed to Advancement leadership.
  • In collaboration with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Advancement and Alumni Office, develop a campus giving strategy inclusive of faculty/staff giving and student giving.
  • Serve as point of contact for crowdfunding efforts with campus partners.
  • Develop long-term and annual goals and strategies for growing annual giving at UNCSA.

Minimum Qualifications: 

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required with related experience; specific minimum experience standards are at the discretion of the Department Head based on hiring market conditions and accepted professional standards of practice within the field. For positions with responsibility for direct solicitation of gifts and funds, a minimum of 1 year of professional-level, direct solicitation/fundraising experience is required.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 3-5+ years of proven fundraising experience, with at least a 2 year track record of success within annual giving
  • Previous experience within a higher education advancement office with a focus in annual giving
  • Some background in or experience with the arts is a plus

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge of best industry best practices and proven track record of using a variety of tactics to generate growth in annual giving for a complex nonprofit institution.
  • Exceptional project management skills with the ability to both envision and execute giving campaigns for multiple audiences simultaneously.
  • Strong analytical skills and a track record of using data to inform annual giving strategies.
