Director, Planned Giving
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s degree and eight (8) years of experience working in advancement or development, with at least two years in a higher education institution.
Special Conditions:
First consideration will be given to current University of Memphis employees.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Ability to work under pressure of deadlines and dollar goals.
- Ability to determine how best to develop and maintain effective relationships with donors and determine when and how a prospective donor can be successfully solicited for a gift.
- Demonstrate ability to relate well to and understand the needs and interests of donors in order to develop or strengthen relationships between them and the University.
- Must be able to motivate volunteers.
- Ability to participate in all aspects of the gift cycle.
- Requires proficient computer and database management skills.
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as professional interpersonal skills.
Additional Information:
Reporting to the Executive Director for University Development, The Director of Planned Giving is responsible for increasing support for the University of Memphis through gifts of estates, trusts, and various other planned giving vehicles. The Director of Planned Giving will be the primary point of support for other staff members working with donors on deferred and planned gifts such as trusts, charitable annuities, life insurance, wills, and bequests. Additionally, the Director of Planned giving will activity solicit prospects in his/her managed portfolio. The Director will be expected to meet strategic and measurable annual goals related to the number of interactions with managed and unmanaged constituents; a number of personal solicitations; total documented planned giving commitments; and the total number of members in the Columns Society (the UofM Planned Giving society). Goals will be set annually in consultation with the Executive Director for University Development.
