The Pennsylvania State University’s Office of Annual Giving is seeking qualified applicants for gift officer positions. Annual Leadership Gifts Officers contribute to growing the number of donors, and private philanthropic support dollars raised each year, and strategically assist in efforts to encourage and increase participation in the University’s President’s Club gift recognition society (minimum $2500 annual gift total).

Established in 2014, Penn State’s Annual Leadership Gifts program has hired thirteen gift officers who have assisted loyal donors in directing nearly $8.5 million to the University. The ALG program provides successful candidates with an intensive front line fundraising experience working side-by-side with other advancement professionals as a member of one of the leading development and alumni relations teams in the nation.

ALG Officer duties include: primary responsibility for face-to-face solicitations of qualified current and potential President’s Club members; the creation, implementation, and evaluation of plans to solicit philanthropic support from alumni, parents, and others who may have the potential to make an annual gift; and conducting discovery visits to assess, cultivate, and solicit contributions between $500 to $10,000 annually. ALG Officers make a minimum of 140 solicitations, and average at least 188 visits per year. Extensive travel (including domestic air) is required.

This position typically requires a bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with personal solicitations, phone/mail campaigns, or other non-profit organizations is preferred. Successful candidates must possess exemplary interpersonal skills and demonstrate a genuine appreciation for working with diverse audiences. This position requires operation of a motor vehicle as part of its job duties.
