Assistant Director of Advancement, Annual Giving

The Assistant Director of Advancement is responsible for planning, evaluating, and implementing a strong annual fund program for the Siteman Cancer Center as well as executing annual fund projects related to departmental grateful patient fundraising for the Washington University School of Medicine. The function of this position drives revenue through the acquisition of new donors, renewals, and upgrades of current donors, and discover donors with greater giving capacity than their current giving level indicates. The Assistant Director will report to the Director of Annual Giving in Medical Advancement with a dotted line to the Executive Director of Advancement for Siteman Cancer Center. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: 

Siteman Annual Fund Management:

  • Responsible for managing the process of identifying, renewing, and upgrading Annual Fund donors, including lapsed and tribute donors.
  • Develop the parameters, create and execute solicitations using appropriate strategies.
  • Determine when to use mailings, email, phone calls, personal donor visits, etc.
  • Will serve as the Siteman liaison with the university’s annual fund team.

Direct Mail Management:

  • Expand the grateful patient donor acquisition program across the Medical School in order increase annual fund support of general research and disease-specific funds.

Stewardship:

  • Manage yearly stewardship reporting to Siteman annual fund donors and select major gift donors.

Donor Communications:

  • Implement system for initial communication with new annual fund donors (such as a welcome packet, phone call and/or event invitation).
  • Manage outside vendors to create collateral as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • At least two years of experience in development or significant experience in a client-centered work environment.
  • Minimum of one year experience in fundraising, or a field requiring the application of similar skills such as sales, marketing or public relations.
  • Strong ability in time management and organization, with excellent oral and written communication skills, and adept in a team-oriented environment of colleagues and volunteers.
  • Ability to meet multiple deadlines under pressure.
  • Ability to handle confidential information professionally.
  • Ability to articulate the needs, interests, and accomplishments of Siteman to a wide range of audiences.
  • Capacity to perform in an intellectually rigorous and complex environment, exhibit personal characteristics enabling effective interaction with important constituencies, and possess a genuine commitment to the advancement of science and science education and to the principles governing Washington University and Siteman Cancer Center.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Two years of related experience.

Salary Range: 

$47,300.00 – $78,200.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one’s qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
