Under the general direction of the Director of Alumni Engagement, the Associate Director, Alumni Chapters independently performs a variety of front-line engaging duties in support of alumni chapter growth and engagement in Alumni Relations. Serves as the primary staff liaison to assigned chapter leaders. Recruits and cultivates alumni volunteer leaders for a variety of chapters leadership opportunities. Provides project management and on a range of projects and programs behalf of chapters team. Stewards assigned alumni chapters, allowing them to grow and diversify their activities. Independently consolidates, manages, and continues to develop chapter management policies and by-laws under the general direction of the Director of Alumni Engagement. Exercises discretion and strong independent judgement in workings with campus partners and chapter volunteers. Strategically partners with contacts to foster strong alumni programming. Identifies and creates connections between people and ideas.

Compensation Range:

$70,000-$75,000

Required:

  • At least 5-7 years of experience with an alumni association or similar organization.
  • Experience in a four-year academic institution preferred.
  • Experience using a personal computer utilizing Word to electronically produce letters, memoranda, and other documents.
  • Experience using a personal computer utilizing Excel to input and assemble data and create accurate and informative spreadsheets, charts, graphs and reports.
  • Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and decision making in alignment with UCI policies and UCIAA strategies in workings with alumni chapter leadership.
  • Skill in project management, including event planning and meeting deadlines.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to maintain diplomacy in difficult situations, maintain confidentiality and conduct self in a professional manner.
  • Effective interpersonal skills to communicate collaboratively, perform as a team player, and provide excellent customer service.
  • Thorough knowledge of the campus, its mission, goals, objectives, programs, achievements, infrastructure and issues of concern.
  • Thorough research, analytical and critical thinking skills, including sound judgment and decision-making skills and skill to correctly identify real and potential problems, advising management as required, and proposing effective strategic resolutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with people and use skill and sensitivity in internal and external relations, especially in working with volunteers and students.
  • Thorough knowledge of basic concepts, principles, and procedures of building and maintaining effective relations with alumni, internal and key constituencies.
  • Thorough written, verbal and interpersonal communications, tact and political acumen to effectively represent the campus. Strong organizational skills required.

Preferred:

Basic knowledge of the institution, its mission, vision, goals, achievements, policies, and infrastructure. Familiarity and interest in alumni relations and the local Orange County philanthropic and business community desired.

Special Conditions Required:

May need to drive occasionally. Must participate in the CA DMV pull program. May be required to work outside of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. work schedule in order to accommodate the operational needs of the office. Including some nights and weekends as events require.
