Director of Annual Giving & Courier Programs

The Director of Annual Giving and Courier Programs will plan, organize, implement and evaluate a strategic annual giving plan for Frontier Nursing University. The Director will also plan, organize, implement, and evaluate the university’s Courier Program by establishing local healthcare relationships, and mentor the individuals selected for this annual summer internship program. The Courier Program is a critical component of FNU’s annual giving program as program alumni are some of our staunchest supporters. The Director will collaborate with colleagues in FNU’s Advancement Office and many others at the university to coordinate annual giving solicitations and Courier Program engagement.
In order to be successful, the Director will need to work closely with all members of the Advancement Office, in addition to multiple other FNU staff and faculty leadership. The Director will not have supervisory responsibility.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Annual Giving (65%)
Courier Program (35%)
- Plan, develop and implement a strategic plan of action with objectives, timelines and evaluation plans for the annual giving program, to include identification, cultivation and solicitation of annual gifts from alumni, past Couriers, parents, friends, faculty and staff.
- Plan, develop and implement a strategic plan of action with objectives, timelines and evaluation plans for the Courier program, to include the identification of community health partners and Courier program assignments each summer; recruit members to, manage and facilitate the Courier Advisory Committee; assist with the development of communication materials about Couriers; work with the Development Assistant to manage and update Courier data in FNU’s designated CRM.
- Design and conduct mass solicitation programs via direct mail, phone, email and online giving.
- Ensure gifts of this nature are renewed; strengthen monthly giving and mid-level donor programs; work in coordination with the External Relations Coordinator to ensure donors are properly recognized in FNU publications and beyond; work in coordination with the Sr. Director of Development and Alumni Relations and the Chief Advancement Officer to identify prospective major donors.
- Identify, select (with committee input), mentor, manage, and serve as the primary contact to a pool of 8-10 Couriers prior to the program each summer, during the 6-week program, and after program completion; engage former Couriers in programmatic work.
- Develop and implement a plan of reporting annual giving & Courier needs, progress and impact to the university and external constituents, in context of the university’s strategic plan and vision.
- Serve as an advocate for FNU’s annual giving and Courier programs to staff, faculty and potential donors.
- Ensure the timely and consistent production of monthly and year-to-date reports.
- Stay abreast of annual giving trends and strategies including social media and other digital fundraising tactics; coordinate with marketing staff for implementation.
- Provide service to the University through activities such as involvement in FNU shared governance (e.g. committees, workgroups), FNU sponsored activities (e.g. charity drives, community-outreach activities), and/or service to the profession (e.g. presentations, profession organization committee work).

- Proficiency in utilizing information technology, including computer skills and Google suite of applications
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Preferred experience in a healthcare or education field
- Ability and willingness to travel as needed (frequent local travel for the Courier Program, occasional regional or national for donor visits or conferences)
- Knowledge and ability to create, execute and/or support, and oversee a comprehensive annual giving and Courier program plan, as well as:
- Proven skills and ability to manage multi-phase projects from inception to completion, including the ability to build consensus among team members and balance multiple concurrent priorities.
- Demonstrate analytical and fundraising skills with the ability to recognize opportunities, identify critical, high pay-off activities and prioritize them to attain goals.
- Openness to new ideas and their implementation. Ability to react and adapt to changing situations appropriately.
- Ability to listen carefully to and understand needs, both internally and externally, and proactively respond to those needs in a consistent and timely manner.
- Must be detail-oriented, well-organized, focused and goal-oriented, with a high level of initiative.
Education & Experience:
- Masters Degree preferred, or a Bachelor’s degree with significant relevant experience
- Minimum of 4 years experience in fundraising, program coordination and project management work
Ability to lift up to 35lbs
The Director of Annual Giving and Courier Programs reports directly to the Chief Advancement Officer.
