Director, Program Development and Engagement Events

Waltham, MAReporting to the Executive Director, Advancement Relations, the Director will supervise a full-time staff member and students as well as direct programs to expand the Bentley community through flagship events and programs geared towards alumni, families and students.
The Director will serve as a primary liaison to Campus Partners to include, but not limited to Athletics, Campus Police, Centers, Enrollment, Faculty, Office of the President, Procurement, Strategy & Innovation, Student Affairs, to ensure a collaborative approach to alumni and family programming in regional/global markets of significant university interest. Works in partnership with Development to coordinate presidential travel and cultivation of prospects.
Assists the Executive Director with short and long-term strategic planning, execution, staff and budgetary management, as well as collaborates to oversee the Engagement Committee as part of the Global Alumni Board to further alumni engagement.
Essential Duties
General Duties
- Actively develops and builds out our flagship and signature programs in collaboration with the Senior Assistant Director to engage the entire Bentley community both on-campus and regionally.
- In collaboration with the Executive Director, University Advancement and key on-campus stakeholders, develops a comprehensive event strategy deploying Bentley’s president and senior leadership to include engagement and fundraising efforts in regional/global markets.
- Works closely with the Executive Director and Advancement Communications to promote alumni and family engagement in a professional manner which serves to increase pride.
- Works with the Executive Director, Advancement Communications on strategic communications related to alumni and parents.
- Serves as the Office of Alumni and Family Engagement liaison with campus partners outlined above.
- Works with the Senior Business Manager on Presidential, Cabinet, and Trustee briefings related to events.
- Benchmarks with other schools and presents ideas and strategies to team for discussion and possible implementation. Keeps up with current practices at all times.
- Manages, leads, and reports on all budgetary matters to show ROI for the Executive Director.
- Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Flagship & Regional Events
- Leads the program development, implementation and execution of flagship events in coordination with the Senior Assistant Director for Falcon Weekend, Reunions and the Alumni Conference.
- Partners with the Executive Director on a comprehensive events calendar that supports University Advancement’s goals as well as the goals of the university for increased engagement and fundraising efforts.
- Works with faculty and key campus stakeholders on lead generation for program development in alignment with Bentley’s Falcons Forward 2030 strategic plan, as well as coordinates opportunities for their involvement in flagship events.
- Collaborates with the Director, Alumni and Family Volunteers on volunteer opportunities relating to flagship events to include steering/host committees to increase alumni and family engagement, as well as Development for cultivation of top prospects.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- 8-10 years of alumni engagement and/or development experience, or equivalent transferable experience. Experience in higher education preferable.
- Ability to travel to regions across the country.
- Must hold and maintain a valid, unrestricted United States driver’s license, with an insurable driving history as determined by Bentley’s insurance carrier.
- Event management experience.
- Demonstrated creative planning, organizational, and project management skills; self-motivated and able to set priorities and manage multiple projects and competing deadlines.
- Collaborative and collegial approach to working with teams; ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong interpersonal skills and attention to detail with demonstrated analytical and strategic thinking capabilities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated technical literacy and ability learning, mastering, and communicating about system functionalities with volunteer organization leaders and improving processes for training and support.
- Demonstrated aptitude for learning new systems and ability to manipulate and analyze data to inform department decision-making.
- Experience managing programs independently, making process improvements, and reimagining events and programs.
Work Environment
- Typical office setting, with extensive sitting and computer work.
- Ability to travel to meeting and work related events within campus and to external locations; Travel may occur outside normal business hours including weekends and evenings.
